What is a Full Lung Function test:

A Full Lung Function Test assesses how healthy your lungs are. Our tests can measure how well you can move air in and out of your lungs, how big your lungs are, and how well they deliver oxygen to your body. This is completed through Spirometry, Lung Volumes (by plethysmography) and Diffusion Capacity (DLCO). Our tests are performed according to the standards set by the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and European Respiratory Society (ERS) and completed by respiratory scientists and clinical physiologists.

What is a Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) Test:

A Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide Test measures how much inflammation is in your lungs. It is often used to identify patients who may be starting or manage patients who are on steroid treatment.

How to prepare for your Full Lung Function test:

  • no smoking one hour prior to testing (ideally 24 hours if possible)
  • no strenuous exercise 4 hours before testing
  • no caffeine before testing
  • no cold and flu symptoms
  • no thoracic, abdominal, or eye surgery in the last 4 weeks (please confirm with laboratory
  • staff for specific wait times)

Withhold the following medications for a Lung Function Test:

  • No short acting medications 4 hours prior to your test (Atrovent, Bricanyl and Ventolin)
  • No long acting medications 24 hours prior to your test (Alvesco, Flixotide, Flutiform, Oxis, Pulmicort, Seretide, Serevent, and Symbicort)
  • No Anoror, Breo, Bretaris, Brimica, Incruse, Obrez, Seebri, Singulair, Spiolto, Spiriva, Trelegy or Ultibro up to 36 hours prior to your test
