Opioid Treatment Program (OTP)
The NSW Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) provides treatment for people experiencing opioid dependence. Opioids can include heroin or prescribed and non-prescribed pain medications.
Through OTP you are prescribed either buprenorphine or methadone which are synthetic opioids. Oral medications are usually taken every day and injections may be weekly or monthly. Receiving regular medication will help to reduce opioid withdrawal, cravings and substance use.
Before starting on OTP you will see a nurse and doctor to discuss your treatment goals and options with you. People can self-refer to the OTP via their local intake service or through their GP or other health provider.
