Medical Education and Training in the Clarence Valley got a boost on 21 March when the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) visited Grafton to facilitate a full day of workshops for GP Registrars.
Grafton Base Hospital hosted the day, thanks to a collaboration between University of Wollongong and ACRRM.
GP Registrars from all over NSW and Qld had gathered in Coffs Harbour for a 3-day workshop, and visited Grafton for the one day field trip as part of this event.
Mayor of Clarence Valley Council, Cr Peter Johnstone, Practice Manager at OCHRE Health Carol Pachos, and President of Grafton Chamber of Commerce and Dr Annemarie Winters, Academic Lead Clarence Valley Regional Training Hub welcomed the registrars and educators.
Our own medical workforce from Grafton Base Hospital Emergency Department and our University of Wollongong Phase 3 Medical Students were not shy to pop in and join the workshops.
“We’re extremely grateful to ACRRM for hosting the medical workshops here in Grafton, as part of their work to support trainees outside of metropolitan areas,” Dr Annemarie Winters, Academic Lead Clarence Valley Regional Training Hub, said.
“Providing training in regional areas offers unique experiences to local health services and helps showcase rural towns like Grafton to a bigger audience. We hope we can welcome more colleges to Grafton to provide education and training in the future.”
