In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

There are more than 40 close contacts, including all staff members and other visitors, who are self-isolating after two COVID-19 cases attended the Ampol Service Station at Chinderah near Murwillumbah overnight on Tuesday 13 and the morning of Wednesday 14 July.

NSW Health takes proactive steps to contact all close contacts of the case, to give advice on isolation, symptoms to be aware of and their level of risk.

All people who are diagnosed with COVID-19 and their close contacts are asked to observe 14 days’ self-isolation to ensure there is no ongoing risk of infection to others in the community.

Close contacts are asked to get tested on days 1, 7 and 12 of the isolation period, and to complete the full 14 days’ self-isolation even if the test results are negative.

Close contacts are contacted regularly by NSW Health’s contact tracing teams to check for symptoms and review their wellbeing. Household members of close contacts should follow the advice provided by NSW Health for secondary close contacts. NSW Health does not comment on individual cases due to privacy, nor disclose details about venues unless there is a public health reason.

Members of the public should check the NSW Government website regularly for venues of concern and relevant health advice, as locations are regularly updated as investigations continue.

COVID-19 Testing Clinics in the Tweed Region

Over the weekend, additional resources were added at testing clinics in the Tweed region. Clinics currently open in the Tweed area are:

  • QML Pathology Drive through, Tweed Heads Bowls Club, Cnr Wharf & Florence Streets
  • South Tweed Heads 4Cyte Pathology Drive-through and Walk-in Clinic, 157 – 161 Minjungbal Drive, Tweed Head
  • Tweed Heads Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology, 38-44 Boyd Street, Tweed Heads
  • Murwillumbah Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology, 14 King Street, Murwillumbah

COVID-19 Cases in Northern NSW Local Health District

There have been 72 cases of COVID-19 among residents in the Northern NSW Local Health District since the pandemic began, with 111 days since the latest locally acquired case on Wednesday 31 March.

Of these cases, 71 are considered to have recovered. There are no patients with COVID-19 currently in hospital within the District.

Advice for NNSWLHD residents

As the situation continues to unfold, we strongly encourage people to continue presenting for testing at the first sign of a respiratory or cold-like illness, such as a runny nose, sore throat, cough, fever or headache. Once you have been tested, go straight home and self-isolate until you receive a negative result. If you have been contacted by NSW Health authorities in regard to a venue of concern, follow that advice.

We remind residents and visitors to please continue to adhere to the current restrictions in regional NSW, which are:

  • no more than 5 visitors at any one time at your house;
  • wear a mask when in non-residential indoor areas, or using public transport, hire vehicles, taxis and rideshare services; and
  • remain seated when consuming alcohol in an indoor area of non-residential premises in NSW.
  • venues must adhere to capacity limits of 1 person per 4 square metres, or 25 people, whichever is greater.

Please continue to check-in using the QR codes when attending businesses or premises outside the home, and practice good hand hygiene by washing hands regularly or using hand sanitiser.

Don’t visit the Greater Sydney area unless you have a reasonable excuse.

Any person who travels to regional NSW from Greater Sydney must stay-at-home for 14 days after leaving Greater Sydney. This means they must follow the same rules that apply in Sydney.

Any person whose place of residence or usual place of work is in Greater Sydney must still follow the stay-at-home rules while they are outside Greater Sydney.

Any person who resides in Greater Sydney and must leave the area for the work must not enter a premises for work unless they have been tested for COVID-19 in the preceding 7 days. Workers must have evidence of the test available for inspection on request by an employer, occupier of the premises, or the police. Additional restrictions exist for workers in certain areas.
