EMERGENCY

In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The District’s Clinical Workforce Development Manager is diving into research to help grow the number of student allied health placements across Northern NSW, thanks to the Rural Research Capacity Building Program (RRCBP).

Vivienne Raymant, who works in the Organisational Development and Learning Unit, is exploring what supports allied health clinicians to supervise students well and how great supervision might boost the number of student placements on offer.

“In NNSWLHD, the number of student placements in allied health has declined in recent years and it’s disproportionately lower than other clinical disciplines,” Vivienne said.

“The findings of this project will contribute knowledge to better understand how we can build allied health clinical supervision capacity to support our students on placement.”

Vivienne was inspired to pursue this research in 2023, while she was working on a statewide health and education initiative.

When she returned to work for the District, she spoke with Conjoint Allied Health Academic Researcher Kate Odgers Jewell, who encouraged her to apply for the RRCBP.

“The RRCBP is a structured and supportive program that enables candidates to learn research methodology, alongside the development and implementation of their own research project,” Vivienne said.

“Having dedicated time to focus on this research, including backfill, supervision and mentorship, provides me with the space and time needed to focus on the project.

“I’m not sure I would be able to manage this on top of a very busy full-time role otherwise!

“I feel very privileged to have been given the opportunity to be part of the RRCBP and look forward to both the journey as well as the outcomes!”
